(TO BE REBORN GROUPS)

MUTUAL AID GROUPS FOR PARENTS THAT HAVE LOST CHILDREN

The first group was founded by Mr. and Mrs. Berti from Rio Cuarto (Cordoba, Argentina) on the 5th of December 1988. To date there are groups all over the country, Chile, Panamá, Uruguay, Paraguay and Spain. These groups do not provide medical care, religious or psicological aid. They are formed by parents that have lost children and all the ones that grieve the loss of a beloved one. Parents that have lost children, independently of the fact that caused that loss: an illness, an accident, a suicide or a homicide, live a very severe existential crisis and the nearest to their own death experience. Questions about the sense of life, the meaning of death, the existence of God, love and so many others that in daily life appear to be philosophical matters, acquire an extreme importance, and finding an answer to them becomes a long and tough way. Each answer is personal and intransferible and we must give it. We do not ask the questions, we must answer the questions that life is asking us. The mourning person is not a sick person. Mutual Help Groups Renacer, formed by parents that have lived or are living this painful experirence, are not therapeutical groups like Anonimous Alcoholics or Aonimous Gamblers.Their memebers have, as a general orientation, Victor Frankl’s Logotherapy principles. Logotherapy, more than worrying about the solution of conflicts, insists on finding a sense that makes life worth living. Those that have a “what for”, encounter “how to”. Under the advocation: “Yes to life in spite of everything”, us the members of Renacer , know that “what we expect from life” doesn’t matter, the important thing is “what kife expects from us”. It is us who give sense to our suffering. When the departure of our children makes us more loving and solidary with those that are suffering, makes us better persons, then our suffering gains sense and so do the lives of those children that preceded us in the evolutive journey. Life has given us “new glasses” to see and valuate things and people, taking advantage of this fact , does not eliminate sorrow, but gives it meaning. Renacer Groups are free, they don’t belong to any kind of sect, religion or political party or any institutional organisation. To participate in these groups it is only needed “to want to receive and give help.”
